Ibiza emergency radio hits 87.2% after seven antennas

Ibiza’s emergency radio network now reaches 87.2% of the island after seven new antennas went up under the current expansion project. The stronger TetraIB network links local police, firefighters, the 112 emergency line, health services, Civil Protection and Ibanat. The Ministry of Economy, Finance and Innovation announced the progress on 6 September.

Coverage has risen 17.4% since the project began. In populated areas, the network reaches 96% outdoors and 87% inside buildings, where radio signals lose strength as they pass through walls and other structures.

At the start of 2025, the plan was to lift Ibiza from seven stations to 21, aiming for coverage close to 89%. With 14 stations now operating, the network has already reached 87.2% of the island.

The Govern said the new sites have more power than first planned and were chosen to deliver the biggest possible gain in coverage. Mountains, valleys, scattered rural areas and Ibiza’s rugged coast have made the rollout harder.

The work forms part of a 13 million euro project to modernise and extend TetraIB across the Balearic archipelago, co-financed by European Feder funds. The aim is faster, safer coordination for emergency teams where the terrain can make communications difficult.
