Ibiza PSOE demands flood action after 43 incidents

Forty-three incidents during last year’s DANA have prompted the PSOE in Santa Eulària des Riu, Ibiza, to demand action against further flooding. In a motion on 21 September 2026, the party’s municipal group calls on the town council to inspect the sewer network and rainwater drainage systems. It says checks must happen before the next spell of heavy rain, rather than after problems emerge.

Many of the 43 incidents recorded during the DANA were linked to flooding and water building up in the municipality, according to the PSOE.

Cleaning before heavy rain

The motion calls for a full review of sewers and rainwater drainage, as well as the cleaning of gullies and other water outlets.

The PSOE wants this work carried out regularly as a preventative measure. It is seeking inspections before periods when intense rainfall is more likely.

Focus on areas at risk

Flood-prone areas and the parts of Santa Eulària des Riu worst affected last year should receive particular attention, the proposal says.

The group is also calling for a regular prevention programme bringing together cleaning, maintenance and network inspections, with areas at greater risk of flooding given priority.
