Ibiza hospital death: police investigate 64-year-old
A 64-year-old woman was found dead in her room at Hospital Can Misses in Ibiza during a routine check at about 11am on 19 September. She had been receiving treatment on the internal medicine ward. Judicial and forensic police are now investigating how she died.
The Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera said the patient had earlier gone through a period of severe agitation and could have been at risk of harming herself. On medical instructions, staff had used physical restraint measures, referred to as mechanical restraint, as well as medication.
The hospital activated its procedures as soon as the woman was found and alerted the security forces. It has handed investigators the information, documents and camera footage requested for the inquiry.
Police and judicial proceedings remain open. The Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera offered its condolences to the woman’s relatives and said it would cooperate fully, while urging caution and respect for the family and the investigation.
