Ibiza hotel parties: group flags tenfold capacity gap
Ibiza party hotels can admit ten times as many people to events as they can accommodate as hotel guests, a nightlife trade group claims. In a statement on 3 November, Noches de Eivissa (AEON) says crowd numbers at large clubs and hotels holding big parties have again gone unchecked this season. It wants the Ibiza Island Council and the island’s five municipalities to act.
According to AEON, hotels operating as open-air clubs attract large numbers of people to Platja d’en Bossa, Ibiza, from early afternoon. It says this puts nightlife businesses in Sant Antoni, Ibiza, and the port of Eivissa at a disadvantage.
The group says the island council has provided no account of checks, inspections or penalties concerning licences, capacity and opening hours. It also says Sant Antoni town council has not responded to complaints about light and environmental pollution from one venue. AEON wants to know whether island records match permits issued by municipalities.
AEON alleges that one company controls and operates more than 50% of Ibiza’s licences, venues and parties. It wants that company’s licences, permitted numbers, hours and events reviewed. The group says residents and small businesses bear the costs of overcrowding while profits go to a few operators.
For the 2027–2031 term, AEON is calling on the island council and five municipalities to draw up a joint plan against unauthorised nightlife activity, including a capacity audit and regular inspections.
