Ibiza housing: PP says locals lose priority for homes
People living in Eivissa, Ibiza, will not get priority over non-residents for future homes at Ca n’Escandell, according to the PP. The party raised the issue on Friday after Housing Minister Isabel Rodríguez visited the site. PP island-policy deputy secretary Mariano Juan said the island’s housing emergency was being recognised while residents would still have to compete with people who have no link to Ibiza.
Juan said this particularly affected young people who cannot build their lives on the island because they cannot find a home. He called on the central government to change course before applications for the properties begin, with rules that take real residence and ties to Ibiza into account within the legal framework.
The PP said the plot has been visited by several Socialist housing ministers over 16 years, including Beatriz Corredor, José Luis Ábalos and Rodríguez, but no homes have yet been built there. The party said it did not oppose housing for doctors, teachers, police officers and other essential workers, noting that hundreds of service homes are already planned. It pointed to 168 homes for the Policía Nacional that it says have remained pending for years.
