Ibiza mayor faces questions after councillor’s husband arrested
In Eivissa on the island of Ibiza, a husband’s arrest puts Mayor Rafa Triguero under pressure: PSOE and Unidas Podemos councillors file a joint motion on 24 October demanding answers about Ana Ferrer’s resignation. Ferrer, a former People’s Party (PP) councillor, stepped down after her husband was arrested. The opposition groups want to know what Triguero knew, when he knew it and what he did before her resignation became public.
The PP said Ferrer had told Triguero she wanted to resign. Triguero said they had discussed and agreed her departure. But the official announcement came only on Sunday 4 October, after the matter reached the media.
PSOE and Unidas Podemos say Triguero’s explanations so far are not enough. Their motion asks when he learnt of the situation, what he discussed with Ferrer and why the resignation was not announced sooner. They also want to know whether Eivissa City Council had any dealings with businesses linked to Ferrer’s husband.
The groups say they are not accusing Ferrer of any criminal wrongdoing. They want Triguero to account for his decisions before the city council.
