Ibiza vehicle inspections: 30,000 more a year planned
Ibiza, Spain: Work on two new vehicle inspection units at the Montecristo industrial estate aims to add nearly 30,000 checks a year. The Ibiza Island Council said on 3 October that the site is at the excavation stage. It expects building work to take about five months.
More checks, shorter waits
The units will handle routine vehicle inspections, checks before registration and duplicate-document requests. They are intended to take pressure off the existing station in Santa Gertrudis and cut waiting times. In Spain, the vehicle inspection service is called Inspección Técnica de Vehículos (ITV).
Estación ITV Vega Baja won the contract, worth 1.4 million euros. It runs for an initial year and can be extended.
A change to bookings
The council also wants to make better use of appointments already available. In August, it made advance payment compulsory when booking, after more than 40 per cent of appointments were missed. People can cancel or change a booking up to 24 hours beforehand without paying the fee, leaving the slot open for someone else.
The council has also advanced rules that would allow private companies to open and run more ITV stations on Ibiza under its supervision. It has not given an opening date for the Montecristo units.
