Ibiza organic farming: just 61 of 171 are women

Ibiza’s 2025 organic farming figures count just 61 women among 171 registered operators. The Sustainability Observatory of Ibiza & Formentera Preservation released the figures on 15 October for International Day of Rural Women. The other 110 operators are men.

Women make up 35.7% of the total, a share that appears to have stalled since 2022. The organisation says growth in organic farming must come with measures that give women the same chance to access land, resources and training, start their own projects and take part in decisions.

Observatory officials say women have helped sustain farming and rural life on Ibiza for generations, though much of their work has gone unseen. Recognising that contribution, they say, also means tackling long-standing barriers to land ownership and resources.
