Ibiza organic waste collection doubles to 348 tonnes

Eivissa on Ibiza collected 348 tonnes of organic waste separately in August, more than double the total a year earlier. The figure was 164 tonnes in August 2025, a rise of 112 per cent, the town council said.

The collection also rose sharply from July, when 221 tonnes were gathered. August brought an extra 127 tonnes, up 57 per cent in a month.

Residual waste falls as sorting rises

As more organic waste was put into separate collection, the amount going into residual waste fell. It dropped from 2,503 tonnes in July to 2,414 tonnes in August — 89 tonnes less.

Eivissa Town Council said the figures point to better sorting where waste is produced. The change came as the council strengthened its door-to-door collection service for large waste producers, including restaurants, shops and other businesses.

Extra night route for businesses

This summer, the council added a night-time door-to-door organic-waste route alongside the existing service. It said the extra round increases capacity and better fits business opening hours and needs.

Municipal civic officers also contacted large waste producers to explain the system, identify their needs and improve sorting. The council supplied dedicated organic-waste bins, compostable bags and identification stickers free of charge.

A new register of large waste producers is intended to give the council clearer information on waste-generating businesses, monitor the service and gradually adjust routes and resources. Information stands and visits by civic officers to owners’ communities have also stepped up advice for the public.
