Mallorca-bound patients and companions could avoid nearly 500 journeys a year: Can Misses Hospital in Eivissa, Ibiza, plans to open a chronic pain clinic before the end of 2026. The Eivissa and Formentera Health Area says patients currently travel to the pain unit at Son Espases University Hospital in Palma, Mallorca. Health minister Manuela García visited the site of the new clinic on Thursday, 1 October 2026.

Fewer journeys for treatment

The health area recorded 445 journeys to Son Espases in 2023, involving 525 people. It recorded 407 journeys in 2025. Treating patients closer to home would also spare patients and companions travel and meal expenses, the health area says.

Work under way at Can Misses

The clinic will occupy the former maternity ward of the old Can Misses Hospital. Plans for its space of just over 200 square metres include two consulting rooms, two treatment rooms and a waiting area. Work to adapt the space is under way, and the hospital has begun buying equipment.

Anaesthetists will lead the team alongside other specialists. A portable ultrasound machine will support procedures that can reduce the use of painkillers, according to the health area. The new clinic will cost around €200,000 and is expected to open before the end of 2026.
