Ibiza pensions: MP warns of risks from PP and Vox

Public pensions could be at risk under the approach taken by the People’s Party (PP) and Vox, socialist MP Mercè Perea warns in Eivissa, Ibiza, on Thursday, 5 November. She meets the Eivissa Pensioners’ Platform and defends reforms made by Pedro Sánchez’s government, according to her party, the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE). Perea chairs the committee that monitors the Pact of Toledo, where she says pension reforms have been agreed.

Perea says pensioners can feel reassured. More than five reforms have been approved since 2020, she says, following social dialogue and agreement under the Pact of Toledo. She argues that they secure pensions for people receiving them now and for younger people who are working today.

She calls on politicians who question the system’s future to offer concrete proposals and defend rights already earned. Perea also warns that changes after the 29 November elections could put the progress made so far at risk.

Across the Balearic Islands, MP Milena Herrera says average pensions have risen by 439 euros a month, or 43%, during Sánchez’s terms in office.
