Ibiza roads reopen as Mallorca faces orange rain alert
Mallorca’s south and Llevant region, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, face an orange rain warning of up to 50 litres per square metre in an hour: on Ibiza, every road has reopened after Sunday’s closures, though drivers are urged to take care. The Ibiza Island Council says it had shut the motorway linking Ibiza to its airport and the EI-10 between Sa Real and the port.
The Balearic government’s Department of the Presidency, Government Action Coordination and Local Cooperation says emergency line 112 handled 98 incidents across the islands on Saturday and Sunday. Formentera recorded 53, Ibiza 38 and Mallorca seven. There were 46 reports of flooded premises, 19 of flooded public roads and 13 of fallen trees.
Spain’s weather agency, Aemet, is keeping the orange rain warning in force for southern Mallorca and Llevant. Ibiza and Formentera also have an orange warning, with up to 160 litres in 12 hours possible. The rest of Mallorca is under a yellow warning for rain, storms and coastal conditions. Coastal conditions could affect Ibiza, Formentera, the Serra de Tramuntana and Mallorca’s north and north-east.
