532 Ibiza social homes spark local residency row
A 532-home social housing scheme in Ca n'Escandell, Eivissa, has sparked a row over who should qualify. On 23 September, the PSOE said it had settled priority for local residents with Spain’s Housing Ministry and accused mayor Rafa Triguero of deliberately fuelling the dispute.
The party said the condition is set out in the transfer of council land, signed in 2010 and improved in 2019. Under that agreement, all the land must be used for protected housing benefiting the municipality.
PSOE said at least 70% of the homes would be rented out. A plot was also to be handed to the Balearic Islands Housing Institute, known as Ibavi, and Eivissa Town Hall.
The argument flared after a visit by Housing Minister Isabel Rodríguez. PSOE called the controversy a false one and said Triguero had pressed the minister to explain the general rules of the Casa 47 scheme, which require only residence in Spain.
Once the homes are built, Casa 47 conditions must be brought into line with the Balearic housing law, PSOE said. The party added that the law requires five years’ residence, after Triguero called for a minimum of ten.
PSOE said the joint council and government-backed investment was intended to give Eivissa a substantial public housing stock, including 532 protected homes in Ca n'Escandell.
