Ibiza speed crackdown flags 144 cases and 18 drivers

Eivissa Local Police have put forward 144 speeding sanctions after a mobile-radar campaign in Eivissa, Ibiza. Separate joint road checks on 21 and 23 August led to 18 drivers being reported for traffic and road-safety breaches. One vehicle with an adverse ITV inspection result was towed away.

The checks, run with transport inspectors from the Consell Insular d'Eivissa, focused particularly on VTCs — hire cars with drivers. Officers examined both transport activity and the condition of vehicles and drivers.

Road checks uncover safety breaches

On 21 August, officers issued seven reports: one for riding without the required helmet, three for using a mobile phone while driving, two for faulty lights and one after a driver tested positive for drugs.

Several checkpoints were set up on 23 August, when 56 vehicles were stopped and 11 were reported. The breaches included one positive alcohol test, another driver with drugs in their body, phone use at the wheel, no seatbelt and carrying more people than permitted. A passenger was also reported for throwing an object onto the road that could start a fire.

Mobile radar catches 144 speeding cases

In a separate speed campaign, the force's mobile radar recorded 144 cases for proposed speeding penalties. Of those vehicles, 28 were public-service vehicles, including taxis and VTCs.

Eivissa council said the joint checks will continue to enforce transport and traffic rules and improve road safety across the municipality.
