Mallorca trial: Ibiza teacher accused of sexual advances
In Palma, Mallorca, a teacher from Eivissa, Ibiza, goes on trial at 10.00 on Wednesday, 14 October, accused of making sexual advances to five underage pupils. The Second Chamber of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court is hearing the case. Prosecutors seek 17 years and three months in prison.
Alleged offers of pass marks
The alleged offences took place during the 2020–2021 school year, when the man taught Catalan at an Eivissa secondary school. According to prosecutors, he took a 16-year-old pupil out of class for conversations that turned to sex. He offered to take her to a house he owned on Mallorca and told her she could pass without studying if she went along with his proposals.
Prosecutors say he also took two 15-year-old pupils out of class to talk about sex. He offered to have sex with them at his house on Mallorca and said they could pass his subject without taking all its exams.
Photographs and an alleged threat
The teacher exchanged intimate photographs with the 16-year-old through a social network, prosecutors say. He later threatened to share the pictures. They also allege that he asked two other pupils, aged 14 and 15, to send him sexual photographs through social networks and sent them photographs of himself.
The prosecution has brought charges including offences involving minors, exhibitionism and coercion. As well as the prison term, it seeks a €5,400 fine and a total of €32,000 in compensation for the five pupils.
