Ibiza youth demand fair shot at 532 public homes

Young people who live and work in Ibiza are demanding a real chance to secure one of 532 planned public homes in Ca n'Escandell. Nuevas Generaciones (NNGG), a youth organisation in Ibiza, made the call on 21 September. Its president, Manu Jiménez, says islanders should not have to compete on identical terms with everyone else for public housing built there.

Jiménez says young people in Ibiza face major obstacles in finding a home and moving into a place of their own. He argues that public housing policy must reflect the needs of people who live and work on the island, especially young people.

“We are not asking for privileges. We are asking for a real opportunity,” Jiménez said. He called on Spain’s central government to listen to young people in Ibiza and recognise the reality they face on the island.
