Mallorca tackles 146 illegal holiday-let cases

By the end of July, the Consell de Mallorca had handled 146 cases over illegal holiday lets, with proposed fines above €4.3 million. That is 42 more cases than in all of 2025, when the island council recorded 104. Tourism councillor Guillem Ginard gave the figures in Palma on 15 September.

Of the cases handled, 61 have already been decided. The Consell classed 36 as very serious and 25 as serious, with penalties imposed so far exceeding €2.1 million.

Ginard said the island council’s new tourism rules had raised fines for illegal offers as a deterrent. For very serious breaches, penalties range from €50,000 to €500,000.

The council has also started 60 fast-track illegality cases, known as DIA, which require the activity to stop immediately. It has resolved 54 of them.

A fine case and a DIA case can run at the same time. This means a property owner can be ordered to stop the activity immediately while also facing a financial penalty.
