Mallorca to reveal illegal holiday let figures in London
Mallorca is taking its fight against illegal holiday lets to London, UK: the Mallorca Island Council plans to reveal figures for removed rental adverts and penalty cases. The announcement is due at World Travel Market, which runs from 3 to 5 November. Council president Llorenç Galmés leads the island’s delegation.
Illegal listings and island safety
On Wednesday, Galmés and tourism councillor Guillem Ginard will set out what the council has done in recent months to tackle illegal tourist accommodation. They plan to disclose figures for adverts removed from major international rental platforms and for penalty proceedings. The council says it wants tourism to work better alongside residents’ quality of life.
The day before, at 13.30, the delegation will turn to safety at the Balearic Islands stand. Representatives of Mallorca’s fire service will join Galmés and public service councillor Rafel Bosch for a presentation on the island as a safe destination.
Winter culture and British travel firms
At 19.00 on Wednesday, an event at The Charterhouse in London will show traditions and cultural expressions linked to winter on Mallorca. The council says it wants visitors to understand the island’s identity and respect the way its residents live.
The delegation also plans talks with British travel businesses, including TUI, ABTA and Jet2. Staff from the Mallorca Responsible Tourism Foundation have more than 30 meetings planned with media and tourism professionals. The council says the UK is Mallorca’s second-largest international source market.
