Illegal taxis on Ibiza face €157,500 in fines

Illegal taxi drivers in Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza, have been fined a combined €157,500 in nine closed cases. Sant Antoni de Portmany Town Hall announced the outcome on 10 September 2026. Eight drivers were fined €15,000 each, while a repeat offender received a €37,500 penalty.

The cases stem from checks carried out in 2025 by Sant Antoni de Portmany Local Police and transport inspectors from the Consell, the island council. Officers reported 23 drivers over suspected illegal passenger transport offences.

Nine cases closed, more decisions pending

The offences are classed as very serious under the Balearic law on land transport and sustainable mobility. The town hall's sanctions department still has further cases to decide.

August brings most 2026 checks

Police have continued their action against illegal taxis in 2026. By the end of August, they had recorded 15 operations.

Eleven of those took place in August alone, as checks intensified during the period of highest tourist activity.
