Mallorca emergency event: ‘drunk’ goggles test visitors

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

On Mallorca, visitors in Inca find it harder to walk in a straight line or pick up keys on 25 October 2026: special goggles simulate the effects of alcohol and drugs. The Balearic Institute of Public Safety offers the activity at a gathering of security and emergency services. It also uses the goggles in school workshops.

Traffic lessons for children

Children make traffic signs from modelling clay and explore a miniature town with vehicles and road signs. The institute also runs a road-safety painting workshop and displays police equipment.

Inside a mobile command centre

Visitors can step inside an expanding lorry used as a command centre during emergencies or large events. Inca’s Civil Protection volunteers show how they set up a forward command post, with a tent, two response vehicles and a trailer. Civil Protection teams from other Mallorca towns join the demonstration. Calvià’s team brings rescue jet skis and equipment used on beaches and at sea.

Regional minister Antònia Maria Estarellas also attends a tribute to Joan Cifuentes, a Mallorca firefighter who died on 20 June 2021. The annual gathering has carried his name since then.
