7,447 €50 Imserso trips open to low-income pensioners

Low-income pensioners will have 7,447 Imserso holidays available for a flat €50 fare in the new season, including trips to Spain’s island coast. Sales begin on 14 September, with the first departure to Oropesa from 1 October.

Pablo Bustinduy, Spain’s Social Rights Minister, announced the expanded offer in León on Thursday. The Instituto de Mayores y Servicios Sociales, known as Imserso, will pay the rest of the travel cost for people whose benefit is no higher than the state’s non-contributory disability or retirement pension.

The €50 fare was used by 5,221 people in its first season. That was ten times the 523 places taken up under the previous scheme, which cut the full trip price by 50%.

Imserso is offering 879,213 places overall. Coastal breaks on the mainland account for 50.1% of them, island-coast holidays for 25.9%, and short breaks for 23.9%. The short-break programme includes cultural and nature trips, provincial capitals, Ceuta, Melilla and European destinations.

Andalusia was the most popular destination among €50-fare users, with 1,267 travellers, followed by cultural tours with 1,189 and Catalonia with 845. Pensioners can also continue to take pets on mainland and island-coast holidays; 1,066 people travelled with an animal in the 2025-2026 season.

From 14 to 18 September, applicants can book only from their home province’s allocation. Those allocations reflect the number of registered over-65s in each province. Unsold trips from elsewhere become available from 19 September.

Imserso will spread 36% of places in each package across the months of the season to avoid travel being concentrated on a few dates. Mainland-coast and short-break trips can be reserved through turismosocial.es, while island-coast holidays are available through mundicolor.es. Authorised travel agencies can also make bookings with a DNI.
