Mallorca seeks more Imserso cash for low-season hotels
A parliamentary push in Palma aims to give hotels in Mallorca and across the Balearic Islands more certainty over low-season openings. On Thursday 24 September, the Balearic Parliament’s Tourism, Culture, Sport, Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue Committee approved a People’s Party proposal seeking more funding for the Imserso tourism programme. It also demands a sufficient, stable range of trips for the islands.
The motion was put forward by People’s Party politician Salomé Cabrera. Some parts won unanimous backing, while the Socialist PSIB abstained on others. The proposal says the particular conditions of island life must be taken into account.
The committee is asking Spain’s central government to produce a full plan to reform and modernise the Imserso programme within no more than six months. Future contract tenders should be launched early enough for travel operators and hotels to plan properly, avoiding uncertainty that can make low-season hotel openings harder.
