Mallorca: Inca PP seeks resignation over €78,950-plus deal
In Inca, Mallorca, a contract worth more than €78,950 prompts a call for a councillor to resign: the local People's Party (PP) says he awarded it directly to a former business partner’s company. The party made the allegation on Monday, 28 September, against the councillor responsible for commerce, city promotion and digital administration. The contract paid for a council system to manage information about citizens.
According to the PP, the company later bought a business that had previously belonged to the councillor. The contract was set to run for a year, with two possible extensions. The PP says the councillor requested both extensions and the full contract was carried out.
Miquel Ferrer, the PP’s candidate for mayor of Inca, wants explanations from the councillor and from socialist mayor Virgilio Moreno. He has asked what Moreno knew about the contract and whether he considers the councillor’s actions appropriate. If the councillor does not resign, Ferrer says Moreno should dismiss him immediately.
