Mallorca’s Hospital Comarcal de Inca is a step closer to a sterilisation service for reusable medical instruments: the Balearic Islands government approves a contract worth an estimated €1.9 million on Friday, 23 October.

The instruments are used in surgery and other care. Sterilising them removes microbes, including resistant forms, and helps prevent infections linked to treatment. Government spokesman Antoni Costa says the contract would run for three years, with an option to extend it by another 24 months.

The government says the service is important for safe routine and emergency care for people in the Tramuntana health district, as well as for the safety of patients and healthcare staff.
