Inca MRI upgrade shuts lane to all but ambulances
A lane beside the emergency department at Hospital Comarcal de Inca will be reserved for ambulances only for about three months from early October. The restriction is needed while a rented temporary MRI scanner is placed outside the building, next to the emergency access route.
The hospital is replacing its current MRI scanner for close to 1.7 million euros. During the work, MRI examinations will continue on the temporary unit, which has features very similar to those of the new machine.
Faster scans and a wider tunnel
The new MRI scanner will use artificial intelligence to process images. The hospital says images will be produced more quickly, while patients will spend less time inside the machine.
Its tunnel will also be 10 centimetres wider than the current scanner's. Removal of the old machine and installation of the replacement are due to begin in early October.
Part of a wider hospital upgrade
Hospital Comarcal de Inca has been renewing its technical equipment since 2024. It first refurbished three X-ray rooms and bought a surgical C-arm, three ultrasound machines, a monitor and a ventilator for 1.3 million euros.
Last year, it added a 4K 3D laparoscopy tower and an echoendoscope, at a total cost of 420,000 euros.
