Spain's inclusive education plan could help 1.2 million pupils
A new inclusive education plan could help 1.2 million pupils across Spain: Education Minister Milagros Tolón highlights its potential during a visit to the CECAP Training Service in Toledo, Spain, on Thursday, 5 November. The pupils who could benefit have special educational needs or face social and economic hardship, according to the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport. Spain’s Council of Ministers approved the plan on Tuesday to improve the quality of education, make it more equal and remove barriers to access.
At CECAP, Tolón says diversity in classrooms is “the new normal”. She tours its training spaces and innovation classrooms and speaks with staff about their work to help people develop their abilities and get a good education.
The Toledo centre opened in 2006 and was the first of its kind in Spain. It works with people who face a greater risk of being unable to exercise their rights, particularly because of disability. Around 350 people directly benefit from the work of the wider CECAP group, which receives funding from the Castilla-La Mancha regional government.
