Balearic prices rise 4.4% in August, data show

Consumer prices across the Balearic Islands stand 4.4% higher in August than a year earlier. The National Statistics Institute, known as INE, published the figure on Tuesday, 15 September. It puts inflation on the islands at 4.4%.

Across Spain, annual inflation reached 4.3%, up seven tenths from the previous month. Core inflation — a measure that excludes some particularly volatile prices — slipped by one tenth to 2.9% compared with July.

Cantabria recorded the highest regional rate at 5.1%, followed by Galicia at 4.8%. Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid each registered 4.7%.

Prices rose least in the Canary Islands, at 3.8%. La Rioja and Asturias both recorded 3.9%.
