Mallorca Airport helps Balearics lead Spain

Mallorca Airport on Mallorca helps put the Balearics at the top of Spain’s regions for international air arrivals. The islands received twelve-point-one million passengers between January and August, up two-point-six per cent on the same period in 2025.

Turespaña said that total accounted for fifteen-point-three per cent of the more than seventy-nine-point-three million international passengers arriving in Spain during the first eight months of 2026. In August alone, the Balearics took in two-point-six million international passengers, the highest regional figure in the country and twenty-one-point-one per cent of Spain’s total for the month.

Palma takes most international arrivals

Palma Airport received nine-point-two million international passengers from January to August, a rise of two-point-five per cent. Eivissa Airport handled two million, up one-point-seven per cent.

Low-cost airlines brought eight-point-five million international passengers to the Balearics over the eight months, a rise of three-point-seven per cent and seventeen-point-eight per cent of Spain’s total. Their August tally was one-point-seven million, up three-point-nine per cent year on year.

Traditional airlines fall in August

Traditional airlines carried three-point-five million international passengers to the islands between January and August, only zero-point-two per cent more than a year earlier. Their August total fell two-point-one per cent to 821,326.

The United Kingdom remained Spain’s biggest overseas market in August, with two-point-nine million passengers. The Balearics were its leading regional destination, taking a twenty-six per cent share.

Traditional airlines fall in August
