Manacor €120m plan: hospital and homes

More than €120 million is earmarked for Manacor, Mallorca, for hospital work, water pipes, schools, roads and housing, according to the People's Party (PP). On 17 September, the party's mayoral candidate Jaume Mut said the money had been committed by the Balearic government and the Council of Mallorca. He was responding to Mayor Miquel Oliver, rejecting the claim that the town has received no investment.

Mut said there could still be demands for further projects, but argued that it was wrong to say Manacor had been left without funding.

Hospital, schools and roads in the plan

The biggest item is €82 million for the expansion of Manacor Hospital and works on the main drinking-water supply network from Petra, the PP said.

Three new schools are planned, while four other education centres are due for improvements and extensions. The combined education budget is €25 million.

The Council of Mallorca has also set aside €8.5 million for road schemes, including improvements to the Manacor-Felanitx road. A further 200 homes are planned in Manacor, according to the party. It said the town was the first municipality where residents had gained access to homes at capped prices.

Work is also due to start this year on a public development of 15 homes, budgeted at €3.7 million.

Health centre site still needs checks

Plans for a new health centre remain in place, the PP said, but technical questions must be resolved over the possible flood risk on the intended site.

Mut said Manacor needs the centre and that there is a commitment to deliver it. But he said the land issues could not be ignored, calling for institutions to work together to move the town's projects forward.
