Mallorca investment scam: two held over €21,000
Mallorca, Spain: An alleged investment scam costs several people more than €21,000, and police arrest a man and a woman on suspicion of fraud. Spain’s National Police reported the arrests on 31 October after an investigation by its Technology Crime and Economic Crime Group. Police say one suspect first gained the victims’ trust, then asked them to send money with promises of large returns.
Investigators believe the pair worked together, taking different roles in finding people, obtaining their money and moving it through several bank accounts. Police also suspect other people received and forwarded payments as intermediaries. That made it harder to trace the money and identify who ultimately received it.
Officers reviewed documents and bank transactions before identifying the two suspects, both Spanish nationals, and arresting them.
