Mallorca musician takes on 17 Ironmans for child cancer

Mallorca musician Bernat Xavier Xamena is taking on 17 Ironmans in 17 days to raise money for childhood cancer research and new treatments. He plans to complete one in each of Spain’s 17 autonomous communities. The Estrella 17 challenge was presented in Palma’s Consolat de Mar courtyard on Tuesday, 8 September 2026.

The fundraiser will benefit the L’Estrella de na Marta association, with support from El Sueño de Vicky, the Balearic Government said.

Tourism, Culture and Sport Minister Jaume Bauzá said the challenge was driven by the need for more research, prevention and treatment options for children with cancer. No child should have to face such a situation, he said, adding that more work was needed to bring families hope and a future.

Xamena will now travel through all 17 autonomous communities, completing an Ironman each day. Bauzá described the scale of the task as daunting even to contemplate.

Mallorca Council president Llorenç Galmés and the Spanish Government’s delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, also attended the launch. Balearic president Marga Prohens had been expected but did not attend for health reasons.
