In Sant Joan de Labritja on Ibiza, Javier Torres is preparing to leave Ciudadanos and will not lead a candidate list in the 2027 elections. The spokesman for the Sa Veu des Poble–Ciudadanos coalition announced his decision on 2 November 2026. He said he would keep working on the council until the end of its term.

Torres, a former vice-president of the Ibiza Island Council, has held Ciudadanos leadership roles on the island and at regional and national level. At a press conference, he thanked party colleagues for their trust.

Council deals despite a PP majority

Torres appeared alongside councillor José Luis Rodríguez, Sa Veu des Poble’s secretary-general. Both said they would continue their political work until the end of the term. They said the coalition had secured approval for 80 per cent of its motions.

Sa Veu des Poble has also struck budget agreements with the PP-led council government, despite the PP’s absolute majority. Torres and Rodríguez said those deals had advanced investments and budget allocations worth more than €1.5 million, including a register of public paths and improvements to Puig de Missa de Sant Miquel.

Sa Veu des Poble looks to Eivissa

Rodríguez said the party is working on a candidate list for the city of Eivissa on Ibiza in the 2027 local and regional elections. He criticised the city’s housing problems, cleanliness and congested roads, including outside the tourist season.

The party also plans to stand again in Sant Joan de Labritja. Torres did not say whether he might take a different role.
