Police in Eivissa, Ibiza, say they found jewellery worth €17,100 hidden in the nappy of a couple’s daughter after arresting the pair over a suspected shop theft. The woman was detained at Eivissa port as she tried to board for Valencia on 2 September. Officers then stopped the vehicle she had been travelling in at Sant Antoni and arrested the man.

The jewellery was allegedly taken from a shop in Eivissa on 27 August. National Police said the woman had been identified through the shop’s security footage, prompting a search for her and the man, who officers believe acted with her.

Plain-clothes officers searched the man and the vehicle after the stop. They say they recovered the stolen items inside the child’s nappy.

Police records also showed an alert linked to the woman over a similar incident in Estepona. Both suspects were handed to the courts after police procedures were completed.
