Mallorca youth group: takes on rent, jobs and power

A new youth political group in Mallorca is putting rent, secure work and a voice in everyday politics at the heart of its campaign. Joves d'Esquerra Unida, also known as Joves d'EU, set out its aims in a statement on Monday, 21 September 2026. It says it wants to bring young people's concerns into efforts to change and improve policy across the Balearic Islands.

Homes, jobs and education

The group wants policies that let young people move out of the family home without handing over a disproportionate share of their income in rent. It also calls for decent, stable jobs with sufficient pay.

Joves d'EU backs public, free, inclusive and quality education. It wants a grants system that stops a person's social and economic background deciding their educational chances, along with universal access to culture, sport, leisure and social spaces.

A voice beyond election day

The organisation says it will work in education centres, neighbourhoods and municipalities. Democracy, it argues, means more than voting every four years: people must be able to take part in political life day by day.

Joves d'EU describes itself as feminist, anti-racist and committed to LGTBIQ+ rights. It also lists protecting the territory, environmentalism, internationalism and solidarity among its core positions.
