Mallorca kidnap case hearing delayed, 15 years sought

A Palma hearing in a case involving alleged kidnapping and abuse has been pushed back by a week, while prosecutors seek 15 years in prison for the main defendant. The Second Section of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court had listed the preliminary hearing for Monday morning. It is now due to take place a week later, provided the court schedule does not change.

Prosecutors accuse the man of two counts of extortion, unlawful detention, habitual abuse and breaching a protective order. His mother, who is also charged, faces a proposed eight-year sentence for extortion and unlawful detention. Two other defendants each face three years over their alleged role in the extortion.

What prosecutors allege

The prosecution says the alleged offences began in December 2024 and May 2025 in Valencia and Mallorca. The man had previously been convicted three times for allegedly abusing or threatening his partner.

A court dealing with violence against women in Alzira granted the woman a protection order in April 2025 and barred the defendant from approaching her. Prosecutors say he nevertheless persuaded her to move with him to Mallorca, where the abuse allegedly continued.

Alleged confinement and escape

The man and his mother are accused of repeatedly attacking the woman with punches, cables, belts and knives. Prosecutors say he took her mobile phone to stop her keeping regular contact with relatives and friends.

When she tried to escape, the pair allegedly held her, cut her hair to humiliate her and chained her to a bed. Prosecutors say she was forced to give her car to her mother-in-law and grant another defendant special power of attorney to sell her home to the fourth accused.

While the man was in Valencia to complete that sale, the woman allegedly escaped the house and travelled to mainland Spain. The prosecution says she returned to Mallorca in August 2025, when the defendant intimidated her again.
