Mallorca kidnap case: 12 years sought over chained woman

A woman was allegedly chained to a bed in Mallorca after trying to escape her partner and his mother. Prosecutors are seeking 12 years in prison for the man. The Second Section of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court in Palma holds a preliminary hearing at 9.45am on Monday, 14 September 2026.

The prosecution says the alleged abuse began between December 2024 and May 2025 in Valencia and Mallorca. The man had previously been convicted three times for abusing or threatening his partner, according to the indictment.

Protection order followed by alleged abuse

A court dealing with violence against women in Alzira issued a protection order for the woman in April 2025 and barred the man from approaching her. Prosecutors say he nevertheless persuaded her to move with him to Mallorca, where the abuse continued.

He and his mother are accused of repeatedly attacking her with punches and with cables, belts and knives. The man is also alleged to have taken her mobile phone to stop her regularly contacting relatives and friends.

Four defendants face charges

When the woman tried to flee, prosecutors say the pair held her, cut her hair to humiliate her and chained her to a bed. They allegedly forced her to give her vehicle to the man’s mother and grant a third defendant power to sell her home to the fourth accused.

The man faces two extortion charges, unlawful detention, habitual abuse and breaching the protection order. His mother faces eight years over alleged extortion and unlawful detention, while the other two defendants each face three years for their alleged role in the extortion.

While her partner was in Valencia to carry out the house sale, the woman allegedly escaped from the house and left for mainland Spain. Prosecutors say she returned to Mallorca in August 2025 and was intimidated by him again.
