Palma kidnapping attempt: pair face 9½ years in jail

A woman waiting for her daughter in Palma breaks free after prosecutors say two people tried to force her into a car. The alleged attempt happened at midday on 15 March. A man and a woman go on trial on Thursday, with prosecutors seeking a combined 9½ years in prison.

The First Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands will hear the case. Both defendants face allegations of unlawful detention, serious resistance to authority and an offence against road safety.

Woman breaks free from car

Prosecutors say the pair drove to the spot where the woman was waiting for her daughter. The female defendant got out, grabbed her by the arm and tried to pull her into the vehicle.

The woman managed to free herself. After a struggle, the defendants drove away, but police later found them, restrained them and arrested them.

Further allegations

The male defendant is accused of trying to bite National Police officers during the arrest.

Prosecutors also say he did not have a driving licence.
