Palma kidnapping bid: two face court after car grab

A woman in Palma broke free after prosecutors say another woman grabbed her arm and tried to force her into a car while she waited for her daughter at midday on 15 March.

A man and a woman will stand trial next Thursday at the First Section of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court over the alleged kidnapping attempt. Prosecutors are seeking a combined nine years and six months in prison.

According to the prosecution case, the pair drove to where the woman was waiting. After she escaped during a struggle, they fled in the car but were later found, restrained and arrested.

The charges include unlawful detention, serious resistance to police and a road-safety offence. Prosecutors say the man tried to bite officers from the Policía Nacional and did not have a driving licence.
