Mallorca kidnapping and robbery pair jailed for two years

Two men have each been jailed for two years after abducting, assaulting and robbing a man in Mallorca. The attack began in the early hours of 4 July 2022, when the pair approached him as he was having drinks at a hostel. They forced him into a vehicle and took him to a house after finding him alone and drunk.

The First Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands handed down the sentences after all sides reached an agreement before trial. Prosecutors had initially sought prison terms totalling 12 years.

At the first house, the men became aggressive and took a mobile phone worth 150 euros, a 20-euro waist bag and 60 euros in cash. They then moved the man to another house, where they repeatedly struck him in the face and demanded more money.

After several hours, they demanded 2,000 euros and drove him to a bank branch to withdraw it. He went inside alone and asked an employee to call the police. The men had left by the time officers arrived, but were later found and arrested.

The pair had already paid 440 euros in civil compensation. Alongside the prison terms for unlawful detention and robbery, each must pay a 600-euro fine for assault.
