Mallorca kidnapping trial: prosecutors seek 12 years

Two men go on trial in Palma on Wednesday, 16 September, accused of kidnapping, assaulting and robbing a man in Mallorca. Prosecutors are seeking a combined 12 years in prison and 980 euros in payments. The First Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands will hear the case from 10.00.

Prosecutors say the alleged victim had been drinking at a hostel in the early hours of 4 July 2022 when the two men approached him. They allegedly forced him into a vehicle while he was alone and drunk, then took him to a flat.

There, according to the prosecution, they became aggressive and took his 150-euro mobile phone, a 20-euro waist bag and 60 euros in cash.

Bank employee called police

The men allegedly moved him to a second flat, slapped him in the face several times and demanded more money. After several hours, prosecutors say, they demanded 2,000 euros and drove him to a bank branch to withdraw it.

The alleged victim went into the branch alone and asked an employee to call the police. The two defendants had left by the time officers arrived, but were later found and arrested.

The prosecution alleges unlawful detention, robbery and assault.
