Palma's La Veneciana changes hands in October
Palma’s La Veneciana haberdashery will have new owners from October. Diana Patricia Londoño and José Manuel Zapata are taking over the business from Pere Arbona. The handover, backed by the Balearic Government’s IBRelleu scheme, is its 16th completed business transfer.
The Balearic Government’s Department for Business, Self-Employed Workers and Energy said on Wednesday that La Veneciana joined the scheme in 2024. IBRelleu aims to keep viable businesses open when their owners retire or change activity.
The department used its online marketplace, where businesses seeking a successor can advertise, to look for buyers. It also advised Arbona on the process and the paperwork needed to transfer the shop.
Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, the regional minister responsible for business, self-employment and energy, met Arbona and the incoming owners on Wednesday.
IBRelleu has helped more than 360 users and has assessed more than 80 businesses in recent years. It has also supported more than 90 firms during negotiations to transfer ownership, including with valuations, financing searches and sale documents.
This year, the Balearic Government has also launched a grant scheme for generational business handovers for the first time. One strand covers costs linked to transferring ownership; the other funds modernisation through digital technology, improved management and communication.
