Palma, Mallorca: An image allegedly torn during a parliamentary debate brings Balearic parliament president Gabriel Le Senne to a hate-crime hearing on Wednesday, 28 October. The First Chamber of the Balearic Provincial Court has summoned him to a preliminary hearing to prepare for a possible trial.

Le Senne is accused of tearing an image of the Roges del Molinar, victims of the Franco regime. It happened during the first of two parliamentary debates on repealing the democratic memory law. A judge ordered the case to go to trial in February 2025, but appeals by Le Senne’s lawyers and the public prosecutor held it up. The provincial court rejected those appeals in June 2025.

An agreement that would avoid a trial looks unlikely. Le Senne and the public prosecutor say no crime was committed, while other parties bringing the case seek prison terms — up to four years — and a ban on holding public office. If they cannot agree, the court must set a trial date. Le Senne also leads Vox in the Balearics.
