Palma, Mallorca: Balearic parliament president Gabriel Le Senne faces a hearing on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, over a hate crime allegation linked to an image he allegedly tore during a sitting. The image showed the Roges del Molinar, women who were victims of the Franco dictatorship. The Balearic Islands Provincial Court has summoned him as the case moves towards trial.

The incident allegedly happened during a debate on repealing the democratic memory law. In February 2025, an investigating judge ordered Le Senne to stand trial. His lawyers and the public prosecutor appealed parts of that decision, but the Provincial Court rejected their appeals in June 2025. The order to put him on trial then became final.

Wednesday’s hearing is meant to prepare for a possible trial. A further pre-trial hearing, bringing the parties together again, would follow before any courtroom trial.

Le Senne, who also leads Vox in the Balearic Islands, and the public prosecutor both say no crime took place. Other parties bringing the case seek prison sentences — the longest is four years — and a ban on holding public office. That makes an agreement to avoid a trial difficult. If there is no agreement, the Provincial Court must set a trial date.
