More than 2,500 older people gather for line dancing at the municipal sports centre in Alcúdia, Mallorca, on 7 November: groups from around 35 island municipalities take part. It is the third edition of the Mallorca Island Council’s line-dancing day for older people.

From 10am to 4pm, the programme includes classes led by specialist instructors, a musical performance and a shared meal. The dancers have a chance to show what they have practised in their associations over the year and meet people from other municipalities.

The council says those associations run regular local activities and give members a place to socialise. Line dancing also brings together physical exercise, coordination and memory.
