London bookings jump 191% for Spain's October break

Spanish travellers are pushing London bookings up 191% year on year for the 12 October holiday break. Trip.com released the figures in Madrid on 9 September, with Friday 9 October the preferred day to set off.

Europe takes 54.7% of hotel bookings for the break, ahead of the 45.3% staying in Spain. Travellers book an average of three months ahead.

Paris remains the top European city choice among Spanish users, with bookings up 65%. London records the sharper rise, while Rome is up 51%. Demand is also climbing for Berlin, up 155%, Budapest, up 117%, and Prague, up 107%.

Madrid leads bookings within Spain for both the holiday break and autumn, rising 122% on a year earlier. Barcelona and Seville follow. Granada has the fastest growth, with bookings up 313%, while Zaragoza is up 200% on the back of the Fiestas del Pilar.

The average stay is 2.24 nights in Spain and 2.71 nights on trips across Europe, a rise of 4.5%. Budapest has the lowest average daily hotel price among the ten leading European cities after a 4.7% drop from the previous year.
