Magaluf bill row: two arrested after alleged police attack

A dispute over a restaurant bill in Magaluf ended with two British people under arrest after they allegedly attacked Guardia Civil officers on Wednesday night.

The man and woman, aged 36 and 31, had eaten food and drunk beverages at the restaurant, according to the Guardia Civil. They allegedly refused to pay, saying one dish was not fit to eat.

Officers later found the pair on the beach. When they were asked to return to the shore, both allegedly insulted and threatened the officers.

Struggle on the way back to the restaurant

The Guardia Civil said the pair strongly resisted when officers tried to take them back to the restaurant to continue their inquiries. The man allegedly grabbed and hit one officer, and tried to attack him again. The woman also allegedly resisted being taken there.

Inside the police vehicle, both continued to threaten officers and their families, the force said. The man repeatedly hit the vehicle window with his head, while the woman struck the protective screen, leaving a small bump on her forehead.

Officers said they used only the minimum proportionate force needed to control the pair and prevent further attacks. The two were taken to Guardia Civil premises, where they allegedly continued to issue threats, before being placed before the relevant judicial authority.

They are being investigated on suspicion of fraud, serious resistance and disobedience, threats, and assault on officers.
