Magaluf hotel rape: man spared jail despite sentence
On Mallorca, a man receives a two-year prison sentence on Thursday, 22 October, for raping an unconscious woman in a hotel in Magaluf, Calvià. He will not go to jail if he commits no crime for the next two years. The second chamber of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court delivers the verdict after he admits the attack.
The man met the woman at a pool party and invited her to his room on 15 July 2022. She suddenly lost consciousness after consuming a large amount of cocaine and vodka. He admitted raping her on as many as two occasions while she was unconscious.
Prosecutors had initially sought seven years in prison. The two-year sentence followed an agreement with the public and private prosecutors. The court also took account of alcohol and drug use and the fact that the case had been stalled for years.
The man has agreed to pay €6,000 in compensation within six months, in monthly payments of €1,000.
