Palma police arrest 23-year-old over Málaga hire car

A 23-year-old driver has been arrested in Palma after police stopped a Málaga hire car reported as not returned to its rental company.

A Policía Local de Palma patrol stopped the car on Calle Llaüt in Playa de Palma at about 15.20 on 23 September. Officers had spotted remnants of rental-firm stickers on the rear of the vehicle.

The driver could not show that the hire agreement was still valid. Checks with the Dirección General de Tráfico, Spain’s traffic authority, showed the car had been flagged for temporary deregistration over theft after a complaint was filed with the Policía Nacional in Málaga over its non-return.

Police said the man admitted repeatedly going beyond the rental period. He was arrested on suspicion of misappropriation.

The municipal tow service took the car to the Sa Riera depot. Policía Local handed the detainee and its case papers to the Policía Nacional.
