RCD Mallorca’s away match against FC Andorra is postponed. Now players want the entire Spanish second-division round this weekend put on hold after CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel died following a heavy blow during Tuesday’s match against FC Andorra.

The Spanish Footballers’ Association says it spoke to the captains of every second-division team before asking the judge responsible for professional competitions at the Royal Spanish Football Federation to postpone the remaining fixtures. It says most players it consulted believe playing this weekend would show too little respect and solidarity towards de Miguel.

Two other matches are already postponed: Granada CF against CD Tenerife and CD Castellón against SD Eibar. The federation, LaLiga and the women’s league, Liga F, had announced tributes to de Miguel while planning for football to continue largely as scheduled. A decision on the rest of the second-division round is still to come.
