Mallorca publishers bring books to Barcelona fair
Books from seven Mallorca publishers will go on sale at Barcelona’s Setmana del Llibre en Català on 27 September. The Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics is running a stand at the 44th edition of the book fair, which also hosts talks, music, readings and signings. The Mallorca titles were chosen through an open call.
Disset Edició, Dolmen Editorial, Edicions Documenta Balear, El Tall Editorial, Espelma Edicions, Nova Editorial Moll and Sa Filosa Editorial will be represented. Menorca publisher Llentrisca Edicions is also taking part, alongside the Institut d’Estudis Eivissencs and the Institut Menorquí d’Estudis.
Mallorca’s morning at the fair
The fair’s stage one hosts the Matí de Balears, or Balearic morning, from 10.15 to 14.00 on 27 September. The programme includes presentations of the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics publications el Cançoner de les Pitiüses, El cançoner de can Pere Mosson and Els contes d'en Piulo, accompanied by flute, drum and castanets.
Poet Gabriel Ventura and Olívia Lund will discuss Lund’s first novel, Corcs. Edicions Documenta Balear and the Institut Menorquí d’Estudis will then speak about books on Mallorca and Menorca festivals, traditions and folk songs.
Joan Moll and Aurora Brullet, both from Menorca, will perform with musician Eva Cardona. At 13.15, the poetry recital Amb la mar enfront de la mirada. Blai Bonet a banda i banda de la Mediterrània closes the programme, taking place at the same time at the Barcelona fair and at the Setmana del Llibre en Català in Palma.
Publishers pitch books beyond the islands
The Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics will also join the Saló de Drets, a meeting space for fair publishers and international publishers invited by the Institut Ramon Llull. Institute staff will present new Balearic literature and its cultural grant programme.
The programme also includes family activities, round tables and book signings. Aina Estrades and Aura Moyà sign Les nits del ratolí on Thursday at 17.30, while Ricard Coll signs No puc volar on Friday at 19.30. Graziela Lleonart signs Ni una llàgrima de mi tindràs on Sunday 27 at 12.00.
On 26 September, Espacio Mallorca hosts four OFF Les Balears a La Setmana events in Plaça de Vicenç Martorell from 17.30 to 20.30. They include a discussion of Jack Kerouac and the Beat Generation, poetry readings and the presentation of Lleonart’s novel.
